Prepaid Credit Cards – The Alternative for those with Bad Credit
In today’s technological era, it seems that more and more business and personal transactions are being done over the phone or online. As opposed to the old days when things were done through the mail or you had to go in person, the electronic age makes everything quicker. You can conduct routine transactions, from the comfort of your home, during almost any time of the day. You can do almost anything within minutes from making hotel reservations, booking airline tickets, or purchasing something from across the country on EBay or Amazon. For all of these types of transactions, having a valid credit card is essential. In the past, a person who had a bad credit record may not have been able to enjoy the benefits of doing online or over the phone financial transactions. These days, people who do not qualify for a regular credit card can still enjoy the same benefits by applying for a PREPAID CREDIT CARD. A Prepaid Credit works much in the same way as a savings account. You open up a prepaid credit card account and deposit money into it. Once your money is deposited into the account, you are issued a prepaid credit card that you can use anywhere that you would a regular credit card. The only difference is that you can only charge up to how much money you have deposited in your account. After the amount you deposited has been used up, you cannot charge anymore until you deposit more money on it. This is great for people who need to control their spending or who tend to shop impulsively. You will really never end up in debt this way and there are no bills or interest charges.
So one might ask what’s in it for the credit card companies. Well, there is a set up fee for the account, usually about $5-$10. Also, you will have to pay additional fees each time you deposit more money into the account. One other drawback of having a prepaid credit card is that some businesses may not want to do business with a prepaid credit card holder because they always run the risk of there not being enough money left on the card when it comes time for payment. This is especially true where a fixed amount needs to be deducted each month like in the case of an internet subscription.
For people with bad credit, the benefits of having a prepaid credit card, outweighs the drawbacks. They can now enjoy the luxuries of doing everyday things online and by phone without the worries of getting in debt and paying interest rates. In today’s world, a credit card has become somewhat of a necessity and one that every individual needs to use responsibly.

One thing I would point out is that it is important to figure out whether or not the prepaid credit card you are using reports to the credit bureaus or not. These cards typically have high fees and if they don’t report to the credit bureaus then they will do nothing to help you improve your credit file or credit score. If you can’t find a prepaid credit card that reports to the credit bureaus, then you are probably better of just using a debit card that is linked to your checking account since the fees will be much lower.
Excellent posting. Pre Paid credit is how I was able to re establish myself much more quickly.
